Cows!

The Cow arrived at s.j.a.m. with laptops and now the whole school can share computers. Cow stands for computers on wheels.The computers are touch screen we were so excited we could not wait to go on the laptops

Today we are learning about the school C.O.W.(computers on wheels). There is so many different cool things about the C.O.W. example: the cloud, which you can use to save work on the laptop and access it on your mobile device or computer at home. Did you know that theses DELL laptops are touch screen? We think that is very cool. There are three different colours of laptops that you can choose from: blue, red and black.. These laptops are an important part of our learning because:
-won’t need to worry about losing our work
-it is more efficient then desktops
-use less paper
-it’s quicker to generate your ideas
This morning was very exciting and Mr. Manning did a great job teaching us about the C.O.W.

How does having a computer at your desk change your learning ? It changes our learning because we can type on it instead of using paper and that saves trees. It is more fun so it helps children stay ingaged in thier work.and it is a lot easyer on the teacher because she/he does not have to hand stuff out they can just tell us were to go on the computers. Hi my name is Nandini today I am going to tell you about my day with Mr .Manning it was lots of fun and extra exciting I am so happy that instead of walking to the computer we get our own laptops and you don't have to worry about losing important papers and you could just write them on a computer word processing and save them .It is so easy sometimes I just whish I had a "that was easy" button from staples! And I found out that saving something on this laptop is as easy as pressing a button,thats it bye.

Today we got cows in my classroom. C.O.W. stands for computer on weels the C.o.w. will now make it easier to learn because now I can find what I need to find on the internet quick . I will now be saving paper.So I will be helping the environment by not using lots of paper and pencils.the C.O.W. will help the classroom the school and me I think the C.O.W. will be great for my school. by Naomi

Today we learned all about the cow. It is a computer on wheels they are laptops for computer labs they are so cool and we don’t have to sharpen pencils or you don’t have to waste paper and your desk will not get messy. Cow is great , it helps you learn in a different way . You can be doing math an you can just pull up a calculator. It will fell like that you aren’t at school . Plus it is much more convenient . So now you only have to walk to the front of the class instead of walking to the lab . Also it is all rate there.

It is like a online dictionary and a mini research computer.It is so easy to do research and other things with.COW stands for Computer On Wheels.With a push of a button all that can happen!!!!

The cow is great because it is small and there is room for a text book or any book. There is also a calculator and sticky notes and stuff like that. The cow is small so it dose not show all the words. The cow stands for computers on wheels.

MR. MANNING AND THE COW
[COMPUTER ON WHEELS]
Today in the fantastic gr.5 class we had a guest. Mr. Manning came in with the COW and showed us how the cloud works. The cloud is its own little USB port and it saves everything off your mobile devices to work on them later. Then we talked about how mobile devices can change our learning, also called the [MLD] mobile learning device! Mr. Manning brought in touchscreen wireless laptops and we all worked with them. The COW is a really cool way to learn and changes almost everything in your classroom! You will find you have a lot more paper and pencils to use for other projects . The COW makes learning a whole new subject. We finally found a way to make gr.5 learning fun and cool in one. The COW holds 24 computers of 3 different colours. The Cow comes with Blue, Black, and Red. The fantastic fives are learning in a way nobody can beat!!!

Update

An update from the classroom: In Literacy, students should have brought home their CASI results. This is the fourth CASI we have completed this year. Each question was marked out of 4, with a level 3 being the standard. If you have not seen this, ask your child. It is a good indication on how well they understand and are able to articulate what they read.

We are writing pen pal letters to our friends in Grade 2/1 and they have written to us as well.
Students have completed their Early Civilization projects and presented them to the class. By the end of the week all students will know how they achieved in both the written and oral components. Your children should be able to articulate this to you.

In Mathematics there have been frequent quizzes. These have been written in the agendas. Also extra help has been provided at recess time. Students have completed the Transformational Geometry Unit and we are currently working on fractions and decimals.

Please be sure to initial your child’s agenda. It is one of the best ways of communicating with us. Thank you to all those parents who have been providing us with Kleenex. We could use more as we are on our last box. If you could donate some it would be appreciated.

Students are again reminded to leave valuables at home.

New Teacher (Mr. McKeown)

NEW TEACHER The grade 5 calss has a new teacher, his name is Mr. McKeown. It is great having him in our class! Mr. McKeown is known as an awsome teacher. I am glad that he is here to teach us Math,Science,Art,&Gym. Our class loves to have Gym and math with Mr.McKeown it is so much fun! Supplies Needed

Greetings from the Fantastic Grade 5's. Winter season brings runny noses and we are running low on tissues. If your child has not yet brought in a box, could you please do so. Students are also reminded to care for their supplies. As we reach the half way mark in the Grade 5 year, students begin to run out of pencils and paper.

Science Lately

Lately in science we have been working on different kinds of energy, like solar energy, coal, oil and gas energy and much more! We have made energy posters representing how much we've learned and how much we can do to stop global warming and pollution. These posters were very well worked on by Gr. 5 and we would like to show you some.

On Friday December 17th our class will be celebrating our first 3 months together with a holiday lunch. Student will not need to bring a lunch that day. We will be providing pizza shells, sauce, and cheese.

We are looking for donations of:

• healthy appetizers
• water/juice
• cut up fruits and vegetables
• pizza toppings
• plates, napkins, plastic cups

Mayor Ellis Visits

Mayor Ellis had come to our class. Now let me tell you all about it our whole class was excited to go to city hall and take a tour. But it was raining really hard so he dident want us to get wet so he came to our school in our class that is cool to.In the picture above mayor Ellis is telling us all about a meeting. did you know he owns a bike shop. In the end he gave us all city hall pins and we all had a great day.

helping homless

my dad and I went to market sqaure last weekend and we sleep outside in a box to raise money for the homless. We earned 1000 $ dollers along with 100 more people. The tricky thing about this trip is we were not aloud to bring anything, no sweater , no coat or jacket. The olny thing we were aloud to bring was a box and we had to use objects we found outside to islate our box. If you brought a blanket or sheet or anything for that matter your things would be kept till you left. There is indeed a building but it is always locked, the olny thing we get from there is a hot chocolate or two. I know you might be wondering how we all earned the money? Well we made a sign that says ''money for homeless'' and we would ask people walking to donate or somtimes they just would. We were not the olny ones doing this, at other places they earn money on differnt days. The money was sent to the homeless on the 8th of noverember. THANKS FOR READING MY POST maybe you can donate to homless next year.!!!!

Bullying

People's feelings get hurt by many things. One of those things that hurt them are bullies. Yesterday on the yard we saw some inapropreate behavior with some students . That inspired us to write this . Just because some people are different doesn't mean they can't be treated the same as others. Dont take it personally they're just jealous. Bullies may be bullies but you are you, stand up for your self don't be afraid! God made us different for a reason so you stand up to that one bully and you tell them I am different and I have the power of ONE!!
