helping homless

my dad and I went to market sqaure last weekend and we sleep outside in a box to raise money for the homless. We earned 1000 $ dollers along with 100 more people. The tricky thing about this trip is we were not aloud to bring anything, no sweater , no coat or jacket. The olny thing we were aloud to bring was a box and we had to use objects we found outside to islate our box. If you brought a blanket or sheet or anything for that matter your things would be kept till you left. There is indeed a building but it is always locked, the olny thing we get from there is a hot chocolate or two. I know you might be wondering how we all earned the money? Well we made a sign that says ''money for homeless'' and we would ask people walking to donate or somtimes they just would. We were not the olny ones doing this, at other places they earn money on differnt days. The money was sent to the homeless on the 8th of noverember. THANKS FOR READING MY POST maybe you can donate to homless next year.!!!!

Bullying

People's feelings get hurt by many things. One of those things that hurt them are bullies. Yesterday on the yard we saw some inapropreate behavior with some students . That inspired us to write this . Just because some people are different doesn't mean they can't be treated the same as others. Dont take it personally they're just jealous. Bullies may be bullies but you are you, stand up for your self don't be afraid! God made us different for a reason so you stand up to that one bully and you tell them I am different and I have the power of ONE!!

Our teacher Mr.Murphy playing the harmonika.

Andy and Mr.Murphy playing the guitar together!!!

We thought that the performance(Mr.Murphy and Andy ) did a FANTASTIC job on the stories about each song. They go back to the 1950 's to the 1960's. The stories were interesting to hear and the songs were interesting to listen to! Also they sang songs from Elvis and the Beatles.that was cool by Mackenzie & Taylor

Boys Soccer

It was a cold damp morning. The boys soccer team were crazy exited in the gym. We loaded up in our army of cars. We loaded out of are cars we had 5 minutes to worry about are 1st game against bayside 2. That wasn't the team we were worried about. The team was . . . anyway this team looked easy but the truth was we tied. We were in trouble we had to win the next 2 teams to make it to the semi finals. But we had a 40 minute break so we rested and started getting bored but luckily our next team wasnt much of a threat. It was S.M.B. we beat them 5-0. then we beat Albert College and we cheered like howling dogs. At the semi finals it was a breeze. we won by 6-0. this time we were cheering so much we could of died. Then was the team we were worrying about Bayside 1. Nobody has gotten a goal for 2 years on them. we lost 6-1 but that was not bad at least we got a goal. We got ribbons for 2 place. We weren't tired but happy and showed off to the girls that we beat them. I hope you liked it. The end.

Centenial Productions

On Friday October 15th 2010 our grades 5 and 6 traveled over to Centenial Secondary School to see a dance inspired by traditional and culteral dances. The performances are from eastern and centeral asia. When the performmance was done instead of clapping you clap and say HASSA.

Our opinions are that we didn't think that, that type of dance was the type of danceing that we would perfer to watch or do on a daily basis. In some parts we enjoyed but some other points were not as interesting as we thought they would be.

Other than that we enjoyed the beat of the drum and the sound of the music.

October News

It is hard to believe that we have already had one month of school. During September we celebrated 3 birthdays, 1 spirit day, 1 assembly and the Terry Fox Run.
October will be just as busy now that we are in the swing of things. We have 4 birthdays this month! It is also in October that students on school soccer teams will compete, as well as celebrating Thanksgiving. The 18th is Photo Day and the 29th is a Celebration Assembly. Our spirit day in October will be Orange and Black day. This year SJAM’s Scholastic book fair will take place from October 26th to 29th. October 25th is an NI Day and I am sure none of our children will let us forget that October 31st is Halloween. It falls on a Sunday this year.
We continue our learning all day in every aspect of what we do. We continue to encourage students to read nightly for pleasure and to review their school work as needed at home.
We have been very impressed with our students’ artistic abilities. The results of their pastels on black drawing assignments were amazing and their enthusiasm for music has brought a creative energy to our classroom which is contagious and fosters a warm, inviting learning environment. In science we are studying the human body and learning new vocabulary and functions of our own bodies each class.
Good communication continues to be a goal for us, so please use the agenda as needed and we will do the same.
October book orders will be sent home shortly. If you wish to order, please return your order with cheques payable to Scholastic by October 20th.

Terry Fox Walk

Once again Sir John A Macdonald school is pleased to be participating in the Terry Fox Walk on Thursday, September 30th, 2010. Our walk will take place in the morning, on school grounds. The entire school will be walking along with teachers and educational assistants.

Rather than collect pledges, students are asked to donate a toonie ($2.00). All monies raised will be forwarded to the Terry Fox foundation to further the cause of cancer research.
“I don’t feel that this is unfair. That’s the thing about cancer. I’m not the only one, it happens all the time to people. I’m not special. This just intensifies what I did. It gives it more meaning. It’ll inspire more people. It has to keep going without me” -Terry Fox
Terry spoke these words after he was diagnosed with cancer a second and final time following his last mile just east of Thunder Bay, Ontario on September 1, 1980. It has kept going because of you and fellow Canadians acting on Terry’s words and saving thousands of lives in the process.

Please bring in your “Toonies for Terry” before the day of the walk.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at school.
